Tuolomne Meadows
Original oil painting of Tuolomne Meadows in Yosemite National Park in California. Tuolumne Meadows is a gentle, dome-studded meadowy area along the Tuolumne River, in the eastern section of Yosemite National Park. The vantage point of Tuolumne Meadows provides good views of the Cathedral Range to the south and Lembert Dome and Mount Dana to the north. Tuolomne Meadows attracts hikers, rock climbers, and a variety of outdoor enthusiasts. The John Muir Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail run through Tuolumne Meadows. The Tuolumne River flows downstream from Tuolomne Meadows over Waterwheel Falls and eventually pools at Hetch Hetchy. The mountains of the Sierra Nevada near Tuolomne Meadows have some permanent snowfields but in the summer they are mostly free of snow. Although brief, the late spring and summer wildflower bloom in Tuolumne Meadows is host to a wide variety of California wildflowers, including the shooting stars featured in this painting. Lembert Dome, also featured in this painting, rises 800 feet above Tuolumne Meadows and the Tuolumne River and can be hiked starting at the Tioga Road in the heart of Tuolumne Meadows. The image was reproduced in Steve Simon's coffee-table book entitled "California: Through an Artist's Eye." The artwork is also available as archival quality canvas giclée prints in a variety of sizes listed below.
