Balboa Yacht Club was founded in 1922. It is one of the oldest clubs on the Pacific Coast. The Club, with its beautiful setting in Newport Harbor, is widely recognized as one of the premier yachting facilities on the West Coast. It operates a year-round facility including a full-service restaurant and bar, marina and a Catalina Island facility. The Club also has a very active junior sailing program, and all members are committed to the Corinthian traditions of yachting.

Although the club is open all year, every year in the month of May the club celebrates the arrival of sailing season with Opening Day. Some yacht owners back their boats to docks where attendees can board. Boats are regaled with nautical flags and canons are fired to announce the arrival of the season.
